Hammam reported,

I saw Jareer bin Abdullah perform ablution from a water vessel and wipe over his leather socks. They asked him, "Do you wipe over your leather socks?"He replied, "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ," and on another occasion he said, "wiping over his leather socks."The companions of Abdullah used to find this hadith remarkable, saying that his acceptance of Islam took place after the revelation of Surah al-Maidah.

رأيت جرير بن عبد الله يتوضأ من مطهرة ومسح على خفيه فقالوا أتمسح على خفيك فقال إني رأيت رسول الله ﷺ وقال مرة يمسح على خفيه فكان هذا الحديث يعجب أصحاب عبد الله يقولون إنما كان إسلامه بعد نزول المائدة
