Jareer reported,

When Mughira died and his relative was appointed to deliver the address, Jareer stood up and said, "I urge you to fear Allah alone, who has no partner, and to listen and obey until a new governor comes to you. Seek forgiveness for Mughira bin Shuba, may Allah Almighty forgive him, for he loved well-being.Now then, I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to pledge allegiance to him with this very hand of mine upon Islam, and he stipulated that I give sincere counsel. By the Lord of this mosque, I am indeed a sincere counselor to you."

حدثنا محمد بن جعفر حدثنا شعبة عن زياد بن علاقة قال سمعت

جريرا يقول

حين مات المغيرة واستعمل قرابته يخطب فقام جرير فقال أوصيكم بتقوى الله وحده لا شريك له وأن تسمعوا وتطيعوا حتى يأتيكم أمير استغفروا للمغيرة بن شعبة غفر الله تعالى له فإنه كان يحب العافية أما بعد فإني أتيت رسول الله ﷺ أبايعه بيدي هذه على الإسلام فاشترط علي النصح فورب هذا المسجد إني لكم لناصح
