Abu Ishaq reported,

Jareer bin Abdullah was on a military expedition in Armenia when the troops were struck by severe hunger and famine. So Jareer wrote to Muawiya, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Whoever does not show mercy to people, Allah will not show mercy to him.'"Muawiya sent for him, and when he came, Muawiya asked, "Did you yourself hear this from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?"Jareer replied, "Yes."So Muawiya ordered the troops to return home and provided them with supplies.Abu Ishaq said, "My father Ubayy was in that army, and he came back with a velvet cloak from what Muawiya had given them."

أبا إسحاق قال

كان جرير بن عبد الله في بعث بأرمينية قال فأصابتهم مخمصة أو مجاعة قال فكتب جرير إلى معاوية إني سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول من لم يرحم الناس لا يرحمه الله عز وجل قال فأرسل إليه فأتاه فقال آنت سمعته من رسول الله ﷺ قال نعم قال فأقفلهم ومتعهم قال أبو إسحاق وكان أبي في ذلك الجيش فجاء بقطيفة مما متعه معاوية
