On the day of the Battle of the Trench, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was carrying earth alongside us until the dust concealed the whiteness of his belly, and he was reciting,"O Allah, were it not for You, we would not have been guided, nor would we have given charity, nor would we have prayed. So send down tranquility upon us, for those people have transgressed against us." Sometimes he would say, "The chiefs have transgressed against us. When they seek to stir us to discord, we refuse."He would raise his voice with these words.
حدثنا محمد بن جعفر حدثنا شعبة عن أبي إسحاق قال سمعت
كان رسول الله ﷺ يوم الأحزاب ينقل معنا التراب ولقد وارى التراب بياض بطنه وهو يقول اللهم لولا أنت ما اهتدينا ولا تصدقنا ولا صلينا فأنزلن سكينة علينا إن الألى قد بغوا علينا وربما قال إن الملا قد بغوا علينا إذا أرادوا فتنة أبينا ويرفع بها صوته
