When this verse was revealed, "Not equal are those believers who sit at home and those who strive in the path of Allah" [Nisa 4:95], the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called Zayd, who came with a shoulder-blade bone, and he wrote it down.Then Ibn Umm Maktum came and complained to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about his blindness, so the words "except those who have a disability" [Nisa 4:95] were revealed.
حدثنا عفان حدثنا شعبة عن أبي إسحاق
لما نزلت هذه الآية لا يستوي القاعدون من المؤمنين والمجاهدون في سبيل الله دعا رسول الله ﷺ زيدا فجاء بكتف فكتبها قال فجاء ابن أم مكتوم فشكا ضرارته إلى رسول الله ﷺ فنزلت {غير أولي الضرر}
