Bara bin Azib reported,

We were sitting at the prayer ground on the day of Eid al-Adha when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to us. He greeted the people and then said, "The first act of worship on this day of yours is the prayer."He stepped forward and prayed two rak'ahs, then gave the salam. Then he turned his face toward the people and was handed a bow or a staff, which he leaned upon. He praised Allah and glorified Him, gave the people commands and prohibitions, and said, "Whoever among you slaughtered before the prayer, it is merely meat he has given his family to eat. The proper slaughter is after the prayer."My maternal uncle Abu Burda bin Niyar stood up and said, "I slaughtered my sheep early, Messenger of Allah, so that food could be prepared for us to gather around when we returned. I have a young goat that is better than the one I slaughtered. Will it suffice for me, Messenger of Allah?"He replied, "Yes, but it will not suffice for anyone after you."Then he said, "Bilal."He walked on, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ followed him until he came to the women. He said, "Women, give in charity, for charity is better for you."I have never seen any day with more severed bracelets, necklaces, and earrings than that day.

حدثنا معاوية بن عمرو حدثنا زائدة حدثنا أبو جناب الكلبي حدثني يزيد بن البراء بن عازب

عن البراء بن عازب قال

كنا جلوسا في المصلى يوم أضحى فأتانا رسول الله ﷺ فسلم على الناس ثم قال إن أول نسك يومكم هذا الصلاة قال فتقدم فصلى ركعتين ثم سلم ثم استقبل الناس بوجهه وأعطي قوسا أو عصا فاتكأ عليه فحمد الله وأثنى عليه وأمرهم ونهاهم وقال من كان منكم عجل ذبحا فإنما هي جزرة أطعمه أهله إنما الذبح بعد الصلاة فقام إليه خالي أبو بردة بن نيار فقال أنا عجلت ذبح شاتي يا رسول الله ليصنع لنا طعام نجتمع عليه إذا رجعنا وعندي جذعة من معز هي أوفى من الذي ذبحت أفتغني عني يا رسول الله قال نعم ولن تغني عن أحد بعدك قال ثم قال يا بلال قال فمشى واتبعه رسول الله ﷺ حتى أتى النساء فقال يا معشر النسوان تصدقن الصدقة خير لكن قال فما رأيت يوما قط أكثر خدمة مقطوعة وقلادة وقرطا من ذلك اليوم
