Abu Ishaq reported,

I asked al-Bara, "If a man charges alone against the disbelievers, is he among those who throw themselves into destruction with their own hands?"He replied, "No. Allah sent His Messenger ﷺ and said, 'So fight in the way of Allah; you are not held responsible except for yourself' [Nisa 4:84]. That verse about throwing oneself into destruction refers only to spending."

حدثنا سليمان بن داود الهاشمي قال أخبرنا أبو بكر

عن أبي إسحاق قال

قلت للبراء الرجل يحمل على المشركين أهو ممن ألقى بيده إلى التهلكة قال لا لأن الله عز وجل بعث رسوله ﷺ فقال {فقاتل في سبيل الله لا تكلف إلا نفسك} إنما ذاك في النفقة
