We used to trade in bulk loads of goods in Madinah, and we called ourselves brokers. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to us and gave us a better name than the one we had given ourselves. He said, "Company of merchants, this trade of yours involves idle talk and swearing of oaths, so mix it with charity."

كنا نبتاع الأوساق بالمدينة وكنا نسمي أنفسنا السماسرة فأتانا رسول الله ﷺ فسمانا باسم أحسن مما كنا نسمي أنفسنا به فقال يا معشر التجار إن هذا البيع يحضره اللغو والحلف فشوبوه بالصدقة
