Ammar bin Yasir reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stopped to rest at Ulat al-Jaysh, and his wife Ayesha was with him. A necklace of hers, made of Zafar onyx, broke and fell, so the people were detained searching for her necklace until dawn began to break, and the people had no water with them. Then Allah revealed to His Messenger ﷺ the dispensation of purifying with clean earth. So the Muslims rose with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and struck their hands upon the ground, then lifted their hands without taking any dust in them, and wiped their faces with them, and their arms up to the shoulders, and from the inside of their hands up to the armpits. People should not be misled by this.It has reached us that Abu Bakr said to Ayesha, may Allah be pleased with them both, "By Allah, I have not known you to be anything but a blessing."

أن رسول الله ﷺ عرس بأولات الجيش ومعه عائشة زوجته فانقطع عقد لها من جزع ظفار فحبس الناس ابتغاء عقدها وذلك حتى أضاء الفجر وليس مع الناس ماء فأنزل الله عز وجل على رسوله ﷺ رخصة التطهر بالصعيد الطيب فقام المسلمون مع رسول الله ﷺ فضربوا بأيديهم الأرض ثم رفعوا أيديهم ولم يقبضوا من التراب شيئا فمسحوا بها وجوههم وأيديهم إلى المناكب ومن بطون أيديهم إلى الآباط ولا يغتر بهذا الناس وبلغنا أن أبا بكر قال لعائشة رضي الله تعالى عنهما والله ما علمت إنك لمباركة
