The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever among you is able to shield himself from the Fire, let him give in charity, even if only with half a date. And whoever cannot find that, then with a kind word."
حدثنا وكيع حدثنا سعدان الجهني عن ابن خليفة الطائي
عن النبي ﷺ قال من استطاع منكم أن يتقي النار فليتصدق ولو بشق تمرة فمن لم يجد فبكلمة طيبة
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Sadan Juhani is Ibn Bishr, whom Ibn Hibban graded reliable, and Abu Hatim said, "Sound." Ibn Khalifah Tai is a trustworthy figure among the Tabiin, and his hadith appears in Bukhari. This hadith is very well known.
