I came to Safwan bin Assal al-Muradi, and he asked, "What has brought you here?"I replied, "I have come seeking knowledge."He said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'There is no one who goes out from his home seeking knowledge except that the angels lower their wings for him out of pleasure with what he is doing.'"I said, "I have come to ask you about wiping over leather socks."He said, "Yes. I was among the army that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ dispatched, and he commanded us to wipe over our leather socks, provided we had put them on in a state of purity, for three days when traveling and one day and one night when residing, and not to remove them except from major ritual impurity."He continued, "And I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'In the west there is a gate opened for Tawba, the distance of which is seventy years of travel. It will not be closed until the sun rises from its direction.'"
حدثنا عبد الرزاق حدثنا معمر عن عاصم بن أبي النجود
أتيت صفوان بن عسال المرادي فقال ما جاء بك قال فقلت جئت أطلب العلم قال فإني سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول ما من خارج يخرج من بيت في طلب العلم إلا وضعت له الملائكة أجنحتها رضا بما يصنع قال جئت أسألك عن المسح بالخفين قال نعم لقد كنت في الجيش الذين بعثهم رسول الله ﷺ فأمرنا أن نمسح على الخفين إذا نحن أدخلناهما على طهر ثلاثا إذا سافرنا ويوما وليلة إذا أقمنا ولا نخلعهما إلا من جنابة قال وسمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول إن بالمغرب بابا مفتوحا للتوبة مسيرته سبعون سنة لا يغلق حتى تطلع الشمس من نحوه
