The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away while Abu Bakr was in an outlying district of Medina. He came, uncovered the Prophet's face, kissed him, and said, "May my father and mother be ransom for you. How sweet you are in life and in death. Muhammad ﷺ has died, by the Lord of the Kaabah." Then he mentioned the rest of the hadith.Abu Bakr and Umar set off together at a brisk pace until they reached them. Abu Bakr spoke, leaving out nothing that had been revealed concerning the Ansar nor anything the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had said about their merit without mentioning it.He said, "You know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'If the people took one valley and the Ansar took another, I would take the valley of the Ansar.' And you know, Saad, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, while you were sitting there, 'The Quraysh are the custodians of this affair. The righteous among the people follow their righteous, and the wicked among them follow their wicked.'"Saad replied to him, "You have spoken the truth. We are the ministers and you are the leaders."

Its chain is daif because it is disconnected. Humayd bin Abdul-Rahman al-Himyari, the trustworthy tabii, narrates from the likes of Abu Hurairah, Abu Bakra, Ibn Umar, and Ibn Abbas, and Ibn Saad mentioned that he narrated from Ali bin Abu Talib, but here he did not specify who told him this hadith, and it is evident that he did not live to witness the death of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, the incident of the Saqifah, and the pledge of allegiance to Abu Bakr.
