He heard him say, when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood last year in this very spot where I am standing now." Then he wept, then said, "Hold fast to truthfulness, for it goes hand in hand with righteousness, and both lead to Paradise. Beware of lying, for it goes hand in hand with wickedness, and both lead to the Fire. Ask Allah for well-being, for after certainty of faith, no one has been given anything better than well-being."Then he said, "Do not sever ties, do not turn your backs on one another, do not harbor mutual hatred, do not envy one another. Be, servants of Allah, brothers."
حدثنا هاشم قال حدثنا شعبة قال أخبرني يزيد بن خمير قال سمعت سليم بن عامر رجلا من حمير يحدث عن أوسط بن إسماعيل بن أوسط البجلي يحدث
أنه سمعه حين توفي رسول الله ﷺ قال قام رسول الله ﷺ عام الأول مقامي هذا ثم بكى ثم قال عليكم بالصدق فإنه مع البر وهما في الجنة وإياكم والكذب فإنه مع الفجور وهما في النار وسلوا الله المعافاة فإنه لم يؤت رجل بعد اليقين شيئا خيرا من المعافاة ثم قال لا تقاطعوا ولا تدابروا ولا تباغضوا ولا تحاسدوا وكونوا عباد الله إخوانا
