Qays reported,

Abu Bakr stood up, praised Allah and glorified Him, then said, "People, you recite this verse, 'You who believe, take care of your own souls. Those who go astray cannot harm you if you are rightly guided' [Maidah 5:105], to the end of the verse, but you place it in the wrong context. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'When people see wrongdoing and do not change it, Allah is about to engulf them all in His punishment.'"The narrator said, I also heard Abu Bakr say, "People, beware of lying, for lying is incompatible with faith."

حدثنا قيس قال

قام أبو بكر رضي الله عنه فحمد الله عز وجل وأثنى عليه فقال يا أيها الناس إنكم تقرءون هذه الآية {يا أيها الذين آمنوا عليكم أنفسكم لا يضركم من ضل إذا اهتديتم} إلى آخر الآية وإنكم تضعونها على غير موضعها وإني سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول إن الناس إذا رأوا المنكر ولا يغيروه أوشك الله أن يعمهم بعقابه قال وسمعت أبا بكر رضي الله عنه يقول يا أيها الناس إياكم والكذب فإن الكذب مجانب للإيمان
