The Prophet ﷺ mentioned something and said, "That will be at the time when knowledge departs."We said, "Messenger of Allah, how can knowledge depart when we recite the Quran and teach it to our sons, and our sons will teach it to their sons until the Day of Resurrection?"He replied, "May your mother be bereaved of you, Ibn Umm Labid! I used to consider you among the most understanding men in Medina. Are not these Jews and Christians reciting the Torah and the Gospel without benefiting from anything in them?"
حدثنا وكيع حدثنا الأعمش عن سالم بن أبي الجعد
ذكر النبي ﷺ شيئا قال وذاك عند أوان ذهاب العلم قال قلنا يا رسول الله يذهب العلم ونحن نقرأ القرآن ونقرئه أبناءنا ويقرئه أبناؤنا أبناءهم إلى يوم القيامة قال ثكلتك أمك يا ابن أم لبيد إن كنت لأراك من أفقه رجل بالمدينة أوليس هذه اليهود والنصارى يقرءون التوراة والإنجيل فلا ينتفعون مما فيهما بشيء
