Ibn Labeed reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "This is the time when knowledge will depart." Shuba said, or he said, "This is the time when knowledge will be cut off."I asked, "How can that be when we have the Book of Allah among us, which we teach to our children and they will teach to theirs?"He replied, "May your mother be bereaved of you, Ibn Labeed. I used to consider you among the most sensible people of Madinah. Do not the Jews and Christians have the Book of Allah Most High among them?" Shuba said, or he said, "Do not the Jews and Christians have the Torah and the Gospel among them, yet they derived no benefit from any of it?" Or he said, "Do not the Jews and Christians," or "the People of the Book," (Shuba was uncertain), "have the Book of Allah among them?"

حدثنا محمد بن جعفر حدثنا شعبة عن عمرو بن مرة قال سمعت سالم بن أبي الجعد يحدث

عن ابن لبيد الأنصاري قال

قال رسول الله ﷺ هذا أوان ذهاب العلم قال شعبة أو قال هذا أوان انقطاع العلم فقلت وكيف وفينا كتاب الله نعلمه أبناءنا ويعلمه أبناؤنا أبناءهم قال ثكلتك أمك ابن لبيد ما كنت أحسبك إلا من أعقل أهل المدينة أليس اليهود والنصارى فيهم كتاب الله تعالى قال شعبة أو قال أليس اليهود والنصارى فيهم التوراة والإنجيل ثم لم ينتفعوا منه بشيء أو قال أليس اليهود والنصارى أو أهل الكتاب شعبة يقول ذلك فيهم كتاب الله عز وجل
