Amr bin As reported,

Concerning the plague, in the last sermon he delivered to the people, he said, "This is a defilement. It is like a flood, whoever turns aside from it escapes it, and like a fire, whoever turns aside from it escapes it, but whoever stays put is burned and harmed by it."Shurahbil bin Hasanah replied, "Rather, this is the mercy of your Lord, the supplication of your Prophet, and the means by which the righteous before you were taken."

في الطاعون في آخر خطبة خطب الناس فقال إن هذا رجس مثل السيل من ينكبه أخطأه ومثل النار من ينكبها أخطأته ومن أقام أحرقته وآذته فقال شرحبيل ابن حسنة إن هذا رحمة ربكم ودعوة نبيكم وقبض الصالحين قبلكم
