Sahl bin Abu Hathma reported,

The Prophet ﷺ was told that Abdullah bin Sahl and Muhaysa bin Masud had gone to Khaybar on some business of theirs. There they separated, and Abdullah bin Sahl was killed. They found him slain.Muhaysa and Huwaysa, the two sons of Masud, came, and with them came Abdul-Rahman bin Sahl, the brother of the murdered man, who was the youngest of them. They went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the one with the closest claim to the blood began to speak, though these other two were older than he was.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Let the eldest speak first."So the two of them spoke about the case of their companion. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "You may establish your claim for your companion, the one who was killed, by the oaths of fifty of you."They said, "Messenger of Allah, this is something we did not witness. How can we swear?"He said, "Then let the Jews clear themselves by fifty oaths of their own."They said, "They are an unbelieving people."So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ paid the blood money for him out of his own resources. The narrator said, "I entered a pen of theirs, and one of those camels that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had given as blood money kicked me with its leg."
