My uncle told me that during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ they used to lease land in exchange for whatever grew along the irrigation channels, with the owner of the crop reserving for himself a portion of the produce. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade this practice.I asked Rafi, "What about leasing it for dinars and dirhams?"Rafi replied, "There is no harm in leasing it for dinars and dirhams."

حدثني عمي أنهم كانوا يكرون الأرض على عهد رسول الله ﷺ بما ينبت على الأربعاء وشيئا من الزرع يستثنيه صاحب الزرع فنهى رسول الله ﷺ عن ذلك فقلت لرافع كيف كراؤها بالدينار والدرهم فقال رافع ليس بها بأس بالدينار والدرهم
