Shaddad bin Aws was on a journey and stopped at a place to rest. He said to his servant, "Bring us the knife so we may amuse ourselves with it." I objected to his words.He said, "I have not uttered a single word since I embraced Islam without bridling and reining it in, except for this word of mine. So do not hold it against me, but remember from me what I am about to tell you. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'When people hoard gold and silver, hoard these words: O Allah, I ask You for steadfastness in my affairs and resolve in following right guidance. I ask You for gratitude for Your blessings and for excellence in worshipping You. I ask You for a sound heart and a truthful tongue. I ask You for the best of what You know, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of what You know, and I seek Your forgiveness for what You know. Truly You are the Knower of all unseen things.'"
حدثنا روح قال حدثنا الأوزاعي
كان شداد بن أوس في سفر فنزل منزلا فقال لغلامه ائتنا بالشفرة نعبث بها فأنكرت عليه فقال ما تكلمت بكلمة منذ أسلمت إلا وأنا أخطمها وأزمها إلا كلمتي هذه فلا تحفظوها علي واحفظوا مني ما أقول لكم سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول إذا كنز الناس الذهب والفضة فاكنزوا هؤلاء الكلمات اللهم إني أسألك الثبات في الأمر والعزيمة على الرشد وأسألك شكر نعمتك وأسألك حسن عبادتك وأسألك قلبا سليما وأسألك لسانا صادقا وأسألك من خير ما تعلم وأعوذ بك من شر ما تعلم وأستغفرك لما تعلم إنك أنت علام الغيوب
