Shaddad bin Aws reported,
Two things I memorized from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said, "Allah 
has prescribed excellence in everything. So when you kill, kill well, and when you slaughter, slaughter well. Let one of you sharpen his blade and spare suffering to the animal he slaughters."

Sahihحدثنا إسماعيل عن خالد الحذاء عن أبي قلابة عن أبي الأشعث
عن شداد بن أوس قال
ثنتان حفظتهما عن رسول الله ﷺ إن الله عز وجل كتب الإحسان على كل شيء فإذا قتلتم فأحسنوا القتلة وإذا ذبحتم فأحسنوا الذبح وليحد أحدكم شفرته وليرح ذبيحته
Its isnad is sahih, like the one before it. The hadith was narrated by Muslim 3/1548, no. 1955, in the Book of Hunting, chapter on the command to slaughter with kindness, Abu Dawud 3/100, no. 2815, in the Book of Sacrifices, chapter on the prohibition of tormenting animals, Tirmidhi 4/23, no. 1409, in the Book of Blood Money, chapter on the prohibition of mutilation, where he said, hasan sahih, Nasai 7/227, no. 4405, in the Book of Sacrifices, chapter on the command to sharpen the blade, and Ibn Majah 2/1058, no. 3170, in the Book of Slaughtered Animals, chapter on slaughtering with kindness.
