The people of Suffah were poor folk. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ once said, "Whoever has food for two should take a third with him." Affan said, "for three." "And whoever has food for four should take a fifth or sixth with him," or as he said.Abu Bakr brought three with him, and the Prophet ﷺ went off with ten while Abu Bakr took three. Affan said, "with a sixth."
حدثنا عارم وعفان قالا حدثنا معتمر بن سليمان قال عفان في حديثه قال سمعت أبي حدثنا أبو عثمان أنه حدثه
أن أصحاب الصفة كانوا أناسا فقراء وأن رسول الله ﷺ قال مرة من كان عنده طعام اثنين فليذهب بثالث وقال عفان بثلاثة ومن كان عنده طعام أربعة فليذهب بخامس سادس أو كما قال وأن أبا بكر جاء بثلاثة وانطلق النبي ﷺ بعشرة وأبو بكر بثلاثة قال عفان بسادس
