I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Whoever frees a Muslim slave, it will be his ransom from the Fire, limb for limb. Whoever turns gray with a single gray hair in the cause of Allah, it will be a light for him on the Day of Resurrection. And whoever shoots an arrow that reaches its target, whether it hits or misses, he is like one who has freed a slave from the descendants of Ismail."
Its isnad is sahih, and its narrators are well-known, trustworthy men already mentioned. Shurahbil bin Simt was a companion who witnessed Qadisiyyah and the conquest of Hims, and served as its governor for Muawiya. Nasai narrated the hadith, 6/26, no. 3142, in the chapter on jihad, on the reward of one who shoots an arrow in the path of Allah.
