We were with Abdullah bin Mughafal when we discussed drinks. He said, "Wine is forbidden."I said to him, "Is wine forbidden in the Book of Allah ?"He replied, "What do you want? Do you want what I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ? I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbid the dubba, the hantam, and the muzaffat."I asked, "What is the hantam?"He said, "Every green and white vessel."I asked, "What is the muzaffat?"He said, "Anything coated with pitch, whether a waterskin or something else."
Its isnad is sahih. Fudayl bin Zayd Raqashi, Abu Hassan Basri the Quran reciter, was deemed trustworthy by Ibn Hibban in 5/294, and Abu Hatim said in al-Jarh 7/72, "Truthful, Basran, trustworthy." Bukhari was silent about him in al-Kabir 7/119.The hadith prohibiting the use of gourds and glazed jars has already appeared at 15000 and its cross-references.
