The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade flicking pebbles between the fingers, saying, "It does not wound an enemy nor bring down game."
حدثنا وكيع قال حدثني كهمس عن عبد الله بن بريدة
نهى رسول الله ﷺ عن الخذف وقال إنها لا ينكأ بها عدو ولا يصاد بها صيد
Its chain of transmission is sahih, discussed shortly before. Bukhari related the hadith in 9/607, no. 5479, in the Book of Slaughtered Animals, chapter on throwing stones and pellets. Muslim related it in 3/1547, no. 1954, in the Book of Hunting, chapter on the permissibility of using aids for hunting. Abu Dawud related it in 4/368, no. 5270, in the Book of Manners, chapter on throwing stones. Ibn Majah related it in 1/8, no. 17, in the Introduction, chapter on the veneration of the hadith of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. And Darimi related it in 1/128, no. 440.
