Qurra reported that an elderly man who had lived through the days of pre-Islamic ignorance, known as Ibn Abs, told us while we were on the expedition to Rhodes, "I was driving along a cow that belonged to our family when I heard a voice coming from inside it saying, 'O family of Dharih, an eloquent declaration, a man calls out, there is no god but Allah.' We then came to Mecca and found that the Prophet ﷺ had already begun his mission there."

حدثنا شيخ أدرك الجاهلية ونحن في غزوة رودس يقال له ابن عبس قال كنت أسوق لآل لنا بقرة قال فسمعت من جوفها يا آل ذريح قول فصيح رجل يصيح لا إله إلا الله قال فقدمنا مكة فوجدنا النبي ﷺ قد خرج بمكة
