The messenger of Caesar was a neighbor of mine during the time of Yazid bin Muawiya. I said to him, "Tell me about the letter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to Caesar."He said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Dihya Kalbi to Caesar with a letter addressed to him." He then narrated something similar to the report of Abbad bin Abbad, though Abbad's version is more complete and better in its narration of the story.Wazad added, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled when he invited him to Islam and he refused to accept it, and he recited this verse, 'Indeed, you do not guide whom you love, but Allah guides whom He wills' [Qasas 28:56]. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'You are the envoy of a people, and you have a right upon us, but you have come to us while we are in straitened circumstances.'"Uthman bin Affan said, "I will provide him with a Safuriyya garment."A man from the Ansar said, "His hospitality is upon me."
حدثنا عبد الله قال حدثني أبو عامر حوثرة بن أشرس إملاء على قال أخبرني حماد بن سلمة عن عبد الله بن عثمان بن خثيم
كان رسول قيصر جارا لي زمن يزيد بن معاوية فقلت له أخبرني عن كتاب رسول الله ﷺ إلى قيصر فقال إن رسول الله ﷺ أرسل دحية الكلبي إلى قيصر وكتب معه إليه كتابا فذكر نحو حديث عباد بن عباد وحديث عباد أتم وأحسن اقتصاصا للحديث وزاد قال فضحك رسول الله ﷺ حين دعاه إلى الإسلام فأبى أن يسلم وتلا هذه الآية {إنك لا تهدي من أحببت ولكن الله يهدي من يشاء} ثم قال رسول الله ﷺ إنك رسول قوم وإن لك حقا ولكن جئتنا ونحن مرملون فقال عثمان بن عفان أنا أكسوه حلة صفورية وقال رجل من الأنصار علي ضيافته
