Someone said to Abdullah bin Zayd bin Asim, who was one of the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, "Can you show me how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to perform ablution?"Abdullah bin Zayd replied, "Yes."He then called for water for ablution, poured some over his hands and washed them twice, rinsed his mouth and nose three times, washed his face three times, washed his arms up to the elbows twice, then wiped his head with his hands, moving them forward and backward. He started at the front of his head, then moved them to the nape of his neck, then brought them back to the place where he began. Then he washed his feet.

لعبد الله بن زيد بن عاصم وكان من أصحاب رسول الله ﷺ هل تستطيع أن تريني كيف كان رسول الله ﷺ يتوضأ قال عبد الله بن زيد نعم فدعا بوضوء فأفرغ على يديه فغسل يده مرتين ثم تمضمض واستنثر ثلاثا ثم غسل وجهه ثلاثا ثم غسل يديه مرتين إلى المرفقين ثم مسح رأسه بيديه فأقبل بهما وأدبر بدأ بمقدم رأسه ثم ذهب بهما إلى قفاه ثم ردهما حتى رجع إلى المكان الذي بدأ منه ثم غسل رجليه
Its isnad is sahih. Amr bin Yahya Mazini is the one who recurs with us often, and he is Amr bin Yahya bin Umara bin Abu Hasan Mazini, a trustworthy Madinan whose hadith is found in the collections of the group. The hadith was narrated by Bukhari 1/289, no. 185 in Fath, in the chapter on wudu, wiping the whole head, and Muslim 1/211, no. 236, in the chapter on purification, the Prophet's wudu, and Abu Dawud 1/29, no. 118, similarly, and Ibn Majah 1/434, in the chapter on purification, what has been said about wiping the head.
