Abu Shurayh reported,

Then al-Kaabi, who was among the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ permitted us on the day of the Conquest to fight Banu Bakr until we took our revenge from them, while he was in Makkah. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered that the sword be lifted.The next day, a group of us encountered a man from Huzayl in the sacred precinct who was heading toward the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to embrace Islam. He had wronged them in the time of ignorance, and they had been seeking him. So they killed him, hastening before he could reach the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and become safe.When this news reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he became severely angry. By Allah, I never saw him angrier than that. We rushed to Abu Bakr and Umar and Ali , seeking their intercession, fearing that we had brought about our own destruction.When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had finished his prayer, he stood and praised Allah as He deserves, then said, "To proceed. Indeed, Allah is the One who made Makkah sacred. The people did not make it sacred. He permitted it to me only for an hour of the day yesterday, and today it is sacred just as Allah made it sacred the first time. The most insolent of people toward Allah are three. A man who kills within it, a man who kills someone other than his killer, and a man who seeks vengeance for a grudge from the time of ignorance. By Allah, I shall pay the blood-money for this man whom you killed."So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ paid his blood-money.

حدثنا وهب بن جرير قال حدثني أبي قال سمعت يونس يحدث عن الزهري عن مسلم بن يزيد أحد بني سعد بن بكر أنه سمع

ثم الكعبي وكان من أصحاب رسول الله ﷺ وهو يقول أذن لنا رسول الله يوم الفتح في قتال بني بكر حتى أصبنا منهم ثأرنا وهو بمكة ثم أمر رسول الله ﷺ برفع السيف فلقي رهط منا الغد رجلا من هذيل في الحرم يؤم رسول الله ﷺ ليسلم وكان قد وترهم في الجاهلية وكانوا يطلبونه فقتلوه وبادروا أن يخلص إلى رسول الله ﷺ فيأمن فلما بلغ ذلك رسول الله ﷺ غضب غضبا شديدا والله ما رأيته غضب غضبا أشد منه فسعينا إلى أبي بكر وعمر وعلي رضي الله عنهم نستشفعهم وخشينا أن نكون قد هلكنا فلما صلى رسول الله ﷺ قام فأثنى على الله عز وجل بما هو أهله ثم قال أما بعد فإن الله عز وجل هو حرم مكة ولم يحرمها الناس وإنما أحلها لي ساعة من النهار أمس وهي اليوم حرام كما حرمها الله عز وجل أول مرة وإن أعتى الناس على الله عز وجل ثلاثة رجل قتل فيها ورجل قتل غير قاتله ورجل طلب بذحل في الجاهلية وإني والله لأدين هذا الرجل الذي قتلتم فوداه رسول الله ﷺ
