A man came up to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was saying, and Waki said on one occasion, came up to the Prophet ﷺ while he was reciting, "Competition in worldly increase has distracted you until you visit the graves" [Takathur 102:1–2].He said, "The son of Adam says, 'My wealth, my wealth.' But do you have anything from your wealth except what you gave in charity and so sent it ahead, or what you wore and so wore it out, or what you ate and so consumed it?"
قال حدثنا وكيع قال حدثنا هشام عن قتادة
أن رجلا انتهى إلى رسول الله ﷺ وهو يقول وقال وكيع مرة انتهى إلى النبي ﷺ وهو يقرأ {ألهاكم التكاثر حتى زرتم المقابر} قال يقول ابن آدم مالي مالي وهل لك من مالك إلا ما تصدقت فأمضيت أو لبست فأبليت أو أكلت فأفنيت
