On the day of Uhud, the people suffered many wounds and severe hardship. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Dig the graves, make them wide, and bury two or three together in one grave."They asked, "Messenger of Allah, whom shall we place first?"He replied, "The one who has memorized and retained the most of the Quran."
حدثنا وكيع عن سليمان بن المغيرة عن حميد بن هلال
لما كان يوم أحد أصاب الناس قرح وجهد شديد فقال رسول الله ﷺ احفروا وأوسعوا وادفنوا الاثنين والثلاثة في القبر قالوا يا رسول الله من نقدم قال أكثرهم جمعا وأخذا للقرآن
Its chain of transmission is sahih, its narrators are well known. The hadith was narrated by Abu Dawud 3/214, no. 3215, in the book of funerals, on digging the grave deep, and Tirmidhi 4/213, no. 1713, in the book of jihad, on what has come regarding the burial of martyrs, where he said, hasan sahih, and Nasai 4/83, no. 2015, in the book of funerals, and Ibn Majah 1/497, no. 1560.
