I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say from the pulpit, "Kill snakes, and kill the two-striped snake and the short-tailed one, for they cause blindness and miscarriage."After that, I would not see a snake without killing it.One day Abu Lubabah bin Abd al-Mundhir said to me, "Why don't we open a small window between your house and mine?"I replied, "Certainly."So he and I got up and opened it, and a snake came out. I rushed at it to kill it, but he said to me, "Hold on."I said, "But the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded that they be killed."He replied, "He later forbade killing the snakes that dwell in houses."
حدثنا يزيد قال أخبرنا محمد بن إسحاق عن نافع
سمعت رسول الله ﷺ على المنبر يقول اقتلوا الحية واقتلوا ذا الطفيتين والأبتر فإنهما يلتمعان البصر ويستسقطان الحبل قال فكنت لا أرى حية إلا قتلتها قال لي أبو لبابة بن عبد المنذر ألا تفتح بيني وبينك خوخة فقلت بلى قال فقمت أنا وهو ففتحناها فخرجت حية فعدوت عليها لأقتلها فقال لي مهلا فقلت إن رسول الله ﷺ قد أمر بقتلهن قال إنه قد نهى عن قتل ذوات البيوت
