I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Kill snakes, and kill the one with two stripes on its back and the short-tailed one, for they cause miscarriages and blot out eyesight."Ibn Umar said, Abu Lubabah, or Zayd bin Khattab, saw me chasing a snake to kill it and forbade me from doing so.I said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded that they be killed."He replied, "He later forbade killing the snakes that dwell in houses."Zuhri said, These are the Awwam.
حدثنا عبد الرزاق حدثنا معمر عن الزهري عن سالم
سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول اقتلوا الحيات واقتلوا ذا الطفيتين والأبتر فإنهما يسقطان الحبل ويطمسان البصر قال ابن عمر فرآني أبو لبابة أو زيد بن الخطاب وأنا أطارد حية لأقتلها فنهاني فقلت إن رسول الله ﷺ قد أمر بقتلهن فقال إنه قد نهى بعد ذلك عن قتل ذوات البيوت قال الزهري وهي العوامر
Its isnad is sahih, its narrators are leading authorities. The hadith was mentioned previously with Ibn Umar at 5483. It is also found in Bukhari 4/154, in the chapter "The Beginning of Creation and He Spread in It Every Kind of Animal," and in Muslim 4/1752, no. 2233, and Abu Dawud 4/364, no. 5252.
