He narrated to him that the Prophet ﷺ came to them at the mosque of Quba and said, "Allah has praised you well concerning purification in the matter of your mosque. What is this purification by which you purify yourselves?"They replied, "By Allah, Messenger of Allah, we know of nothing except that we had Jewish neighbors who used to wash themselves after relieving themselves, so we washed as they washed."

Its isnad is hasan, because Shurahbil bin Saad was deemed daif by a group of scholars, but as noted earlier Tirmidhi graded him hasan. As for Abu Uways, he is Abdullah bin Abdullah bin Uways, and he is trustworthy. This has also been mentioned before. The hadith was narrated by Tabarani in Al-Kabir 17/140, no. 348, by Tabari in Tafsir 11/30, and by Ibn Khuzayma 1/45, no. 83, all of them through the route of Shurahbil from Uwaym. Among those who narrated it is also Hakim 1/155, who passed over it in silence, as did Dhahabi. The hadith concerning Allah's praise of the people of Quba has already been mentioned many times in the Sahihayn.
