Someone who heard the Messenger of Allah's caller informed me that when the prayer was about to begin, or when the time for prayer had come, or something similar, the caller announced, "Pray in your dwellings," because of rain that had fallen.

Its chain of transmission is sahih. Aws bin Aws bin Abu Aws is a trustworthy narrator among the senior Followers, and even though the companion is not named, this lack of identification does not harm the hadith.Bukhari narrated the hadith with a similar wording in 2/113, no. 633 of Fath al-Bari, in the Book of Adhan, in the chapter on the adhan for travelers when they are in a group.Muslim narrated it in 1/484, no. 697, along with its repeated versions, in the Book of the Prayer of Travelers, in the chapter on praying in one's lodging during rain.Abu Dawud narrated it in 1/278, no. 1057, in the Book of Prayer, in the chapter on the Friday prayer on a rainy day.Nasai narrated it in 2/14, in the Book of Adhan, in the chapter on the adhan for one who stays away from attending the congregation, with its wording and chain of transmission, but he said "from a man of Thaqif" instead.
