Jabir bin Abdullah reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, "Jabir, do you have a wife?"I replied, "Yes."He asked, "Did you marry a previously married woman or a virgin?"I said, "I married a previously married woman."He said to me, "Why did you not marry a young virgin?"I replied, "My father was killed alongside you on such and such a day, and he left behind young daughters. I disliked the thought of bringing in a girl their own age to live with them. So I married a previously married woman who could comb the lice from their hair and mend their torn garments."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Excellent is the view you have taken."

حدثنا عبيدة حدثني الأسود عن نبيح العنزي

عن جابر بن عبد الله قال

قال لي رسول الله ﷺ يا جابر ألك امرأة قال قلت نعم قال أثيبا نكحت أم بكرا قال قلت له تزوجتها وهي ثيب قال فقال لي فهلا تزوجتها جويرية قال قلت له قتل أبي معك يوم كذا وكذا وترك جواري فكرهت أن أضم إليهن جارية كإحداهن فتزوجت ثيبا تقصع قملة إحداهن وتخيط درع إحداهن إذا تخرق قال فقال رسول الله ﷺ فإنك نعم ما رأيت
