When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was distributing the spoils of Hawazin among the people at Jiranah, a man from Banu Tamim stood up and said, "Be just, Muhammad."He replied, "Woe to you. Who will be just if I am not just? I would be ruined and lost if I were not just."Umar said, "Messenger of Allah, shall I not get up and kill this hypocrite?"He answered, "Allah forbid that the nations should hear that Muhammad kills his companions."Then the Prophet ﷺ said, "This man and his companions recite the Quran, but it does not pass beyond their throats. They pass through the religion as an arrow passes through its target."Muaz said, Abu Zubayr said to me, "I presented this hadith to Zuhri, and he did not differ with me except that he said al-nadiy." I said, "The arrow shaft?" He said, "Are you not an Arab?"
حدثنا أبو المغيرة حدثنا معان بن رفاعة حدثنا أبو الزبير
لما قسم رسول الله ﷺ غنائم هوازن بين الناس بالجعرانة قام رجل من بني تميم فقال اعدل يا محمد فقال ويلك ومن يعدل إذا لم أعدل لقد خبت وخسرت إن لم أعدل قال فقال عمر يا رسول الله ألا أقوم فأقتل هذا المنافق قال معاذ الله أن تتسامع الأمم أن محمدا يقتل أصحابه ثم قال النبي ﷺ إن هذا وأصحابا له يقرءون القرآن لا يجاوز تراقيهم يمرقون من الدين كما يمرق المرماة من الرمية قال معاذ فقال لي أبو الزبير فعرضت هذا الحديث على الزهري فما خالفني إلا أنه قال النضي قلت القدح فقال ألست برجل عربي
