I was with the Prophet ﷺ on a journey. When we drew near Madinah, I said, "Messenger of Allah, I am newly married, so grant me permission to hurry ahead to my family."He asked, "Have you married?"I said, "Yes."He asked, "A virgin or a previously married woman?"I said, "A previously married woman."He said, "Why not a virgin, so you could play with her and she with you?"I said, "Abdullah died and left behind young daughters, so I disliked the idea of bringing them a wife of their own age. I wanted someone who could comb their hair and look after them."He said, "Do not enter upon your family at night."I was riding a camel that became weak and lagged behind. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ caught up with me while I was at the rear of the people.He asked, "What is the matter, Jabir?"I said, "My camel has grown weak."He took its tail and rebuked it, and from then on I rode at the front of the people, with my camel pressing forward so much that I worried about its head.When we drew near Madinah, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, "What has the camel done?"I said, "Here it is."He said, "Sell it to me."I said, "No, it is yours."He said, "Sell it to me."I said, "It is yours."He said, "No. I have bought it for an ounce of silver. Ride it, and when you arrive, bring it to us."When I reached Madinah, I brought it to him. He said, "Bilal, weigh out an ounce for him and add a qirat."I said to myself, "This qirat that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ added for me will never leave me until I die."So I placed it in a pouch, and it remained with me until the people of Sham came on the day of al-Harrah and took it along with what they took.
حدثنا أبو معاوية وحدثنا الأعمش عن سالم بن أبي الجعد
كنت مع النبي ﷺ في سفر فلما دنونا من المدينة قال قلت يا رسول الله إني حديث عهد بعرس فأذن لي في أن أتعجل إلى أهلي قال أفتزوجت قال قلت نعم قال بكرا أم ثيبا قال قلت ثيبا قال فهلا بكرا تلاعبها وتلاعبك قال قلت إن عبد الله هلك وترك علي جواري فكرهت أن أضم إليهن مثلهن فقال لا تأت أهلك طروقا قال وكنت على جمل فاعتل قال فلحقني رسول الله ﷺ وأنا في آخر الناس قال فقال ما لك يا جابر قال قلت اعتل بعيري قال فأخذ بذنبه ثم زجره قال فما زلت إنما أنا في أول الناس يهمني رأسه فلما دنونا من المدينة قال قال لي رسول الله ﷺ ما فعل الجمل قلت هو ذا قال فبعنيه قلت لا بل هو لك قال بعنيه قال قلت هو لك قال لا قد أخذته بأوقية اركبه فإذا قدمت فأتنا به قال فلما قدمت المدينة جئت به فقال يا بلال زن له وقية وزده قيراطا قال قلت هذا قيراط زادنيه رسول الله ﷺ لا يفارقني أبدا حتى أموت قال فجعلته في كيس فلم يزل عندي حتى جاء أهل الشام يوم الحرة فأخذوه فيما أخذوا
