Anas bin Malik reported,

On the day of Uhud, while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was wiping the blood from his face, he said, "How can a people prosper who have wounded the face of their Prophet and broken his tooth while he calls them to Allah ?" So Allah revealed, "Not for you, [O Muhammad, but for Allah], is the decision whether He should [cut them down] or forgive them or punish them, for indeed, they are wrongdoers" [Aal Imran 3:128].

عن أنس

أن رسول الله ﷺ قال يوم أحد وهو يسلت الدماء عن وجهه كيف يفلح قوم شجوا وجه نبيهم وكسروا رباعيته وهو يدعوهم إلى الله عز وجل فأنزل الله عز وجل {ليس لك من الأمر شيء أو يتوب عليهم أو يعذبهم فإنهم ظالمون}
