Anas bin Malik reported,

The Jews, whenever one of their women was menstruating, would put her out of the house and refuse to eat with her or share her bed. The companions of the Prophet ﷺ asked him about this, and Allah revealed, "They ask you about menstruation. Say, it is a harm, so keep away from women during menstruation" [Baqarah 2:222], to the end of the verse.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then instructed them to do everything with their wives except sexual intercourse. The Jews said, "This man does not wish to leave anything of our practice without opposing us in it."So Abbad bin Bishr and Usayd bin Hudayr came and said, "Messenger of Allah, the Jews have said such and such. Shall we not have intercourse with them anyway?"The face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ changed, until we thought he had become angry with them. They left his presence, and just then a gift of milk was being brought to the Prophet ﷺ. He sent after them and gave them the milk to drink, so we knew that he was not angry with them.

عن أنس بن مالك

أن اليهود كانت إذا حاضت المرأة منهم أخرجوها من البيت فلم يؤاكلوها ولم يجامعوها فسأل أصحاب النبي ﷺ عن ذلك فأنزل الله عز وجل {ويسألونك عن المحيض قل هو أذى فاعتزلوا النساء في المحيض} حتى فرغ من الآية فأمرهم رسول الله ﷺ أن يصنعوا كل شيء إلا النكاح قالت اليهود ما يريد هذا الرجل أن يدع شيئا من أمرنا إلا خالفنا فيه فجاء عباد بن بشر وأسيد بن حضير فقالا يا رسول الله إن اليهود قالت كذا وكذا أفلا ننكحهن فتغير وجه رسول الله ﷺ حتى ظننا أنه قد وجد عليهما فخرجا من عنده واستقبلتهما هدية من لبن إلى النبي ﷺ فبعث في آثارهما فسقاهما فظننا أنه لم يجد عليهما
