Anas bin Malik reported,

When Zaynab's waiting period ended, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Zayd, "Go and propose to her on my behalf."Zayd said, "So I set out and came to her while she was kneading her dough. When I saw her, she became so great in my heart that I could not look at her, knowing that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had mentioned her. So I turned my back to her and stepped backward on my heels, saying, 'Zaynab, rejoice! The Messenger of Allah ﷺ has sent me to propose to you.'"She said, "I will not do anything until I consult my Lord ." Then she rose to her place of prayer, and the Quran was revealed concerning the matter. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came and entered upon her without permission.Zayd said, "I remember that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ fed us bread and meat."Hashim said in his version, "When I learned that the Prophet ﷺ had proposed to her..." Hashim said in his hadith, "I remember that when she was brought in to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he fed us bread and meat. Then the people departed, but some men remained in the house talking after the meal. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out and I followed him. He began going around to the apartments of his wives, greeting each of them, and they would say, 'Messenger of Allah, how did you find your wife?' I do not know whether I told him the people had left or someone else informed him. He then went and entered the house. I started to enter with him, but he drew the curtain between me and himself, and the verse of the veil was revealed. The people were admonished with what they were admonished."Hashim said in his hadith, "Do not enter the houses of the Prophet unless permission is given to you for a meal, without awaiting its preparation. But when you are invited, then enter, and when you have eaten, disperse, not lingering for conversation. Indeed, that was troubling the Prophet, and he was shy of dismissing you. But Allah is not shy of the truth" [Ahzab 33:53].

حدثنا بهز وحدثنا هاشم قالا حدثنا سليمان بن المغيرة عن ثابت

عن أنس قال

لما انقضت عدة زينب قال رسول الله ﷺ لزيد اذهب فاذكرها علي قال فانطلق حتى أتاها قال وهي تخمر عجينها فلما رأيتها عظمت في صدري حتى ما أستطيع أن أنظر إليها أن رسول الله ﷺ ذكرها فوليتها ظهري وركضت على عقبي فقلت يا زينب أبشري أرسلني رسول الله ﷺ يذكرك قالت ما أنا بصانعة شيئا حتى أؤامر ربي عز وجل فقامت إلى مسجدها ونزل يعني القرآن وجاء رسول الله ﷺ فدخل عليها بغير إذن قال ولقد رأيتنا أن رسول الله ﷺ أطعمنا الخبز واللحم قال هاشم حين عرفت أن النبي ﷺ خطبها قال هاشم في حديثه لقد رأيتنا حين أدخلت على رسول الله ﷺ أطعمنا الخبز واللحم فخرج الناس وبقي رجال يتحدثون في البيت بعد الطعام فخرج رسول الله ﷺ واتبعته فجعل يتتبع حجر نسائه فجعل يسلم عليهن ويقلن يا رسول الله كيف وجدت أهلك قال فما أدري أنا أخبرته أن القوم قد خرجوا أو أخبر قال فانطلق حتى دخل البيت فذهبت أدخل معه فألقى الستر بيني وبينه ونزل الحجاب قال ووعظ القوم بما وعظوا به قال هاشم في حديثه {لا تدخلوا بيوت النبي إلا أن يؤذن لكم إلى طعام غير ناظرين إناه} {ولا مستأنسين لحديث إن ذلكم كان يؤذي النبي فيستحيي منكم والله لا يستحيي من الحق}
