Safiyyah fell to the share of Dihya Kalbi. Someone said, "Messenger of Allah, a beautiful slave girl has fallen to Dihya's share."So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ purchased her in exchange for seven heads, and placed her with Umm Sulaym so she could prepare herself and observe her waiting period, as far as Hammad knew.The people said, "By Allah, we do not know whether the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has married her or taken her as a concubine."When he had her mount, he veiled her and seated her behind him, so the people knew that he had married her.When he drew near Madinah, the people sped up their mounts, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sped up his as well, as was their custom. The she-camel stumbled, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ fell, and she fell with him. The wives of the Prophet ﷺ were watching, and they said, "May Allah send the Jewess far away," and they said such and such about her.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then stood up, veiled her, and seated her behind him.
حدثنا يزيد حدثنا حماد بن سلمة عن ثابت البناني
أن صفية وقعت في سهم دحية الكلبي فقيل يا رسول الله قد وقعت في سهم دحية جارية جميلة فاشتراها رسول الله ﷺ بسبعة أرؤس فجعلها عند أم سليم حتى تهيأ وتعتد فيما يعلم حماد فقال الناس والله ما ندري أتزوجها رسول الله ﷺ أو تسراها فلما حملها سترها وأردفها خلفه فعرف الناس أنه قد تزوجها فلما دنا من المدينة أوضع الناس وأوضع رسول الله ﷺ وكذلك كانوا يصنعون فعثرت الناقة فخر رسول الله ﷺ وخرت معه وأزواج النبي ﷺ ينظرن فقلن أبعد الله اليهودية وفعل بها وفعل فقام رسول الله ﷺ فسترها وأردفها خلفه
