Anas bin Malik reported,

Safiyyah fell to Dihya as his share of the spoils, and it was said, "Messenger of Allah, a beautiful slave girl has fallen to Dihya's lot." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ purchased her for seven head of captives and placed her with Umm Sulaym so that she might make herself ready and complete her waiting period, according to what Hammad knew of it.The people said, "By Allah, we do not know whether the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has married her or taken her as a concubine."Then, when he carried her along, he screened her and seated her behind him on his mount, so the people knew that he had married her. When he drew near Madinah, the people urged their mounts forward, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ urged his forward too, as was their custom. The she-camel stumbled, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ fell, and she fell with him. The wives of the Prophet ﷺ were watching, and they said, "May Allah put the Jewish woman far away," and they said this and that about her. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ rose, screened her, and seated her behind him once more.Except that he said, "When he had settled her on the back of his mount, he dismounted and then pitched the domed tent over her."
