The Prophet ﷺ said, "The best remedies you can use are cupping and sea costus, so do not torment your children by pressing on their throats."
حدثنا ابن أبي عدي عن حميد
أن النبي ﷺ قال خير ما تداويتم به الحجامة والقسط البحري ولا تعذبوا صبيانكم بالغمز
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Bukhari narrated it, 10/150, no. 5696, in Fath al-Bari, in the book of medicine, chapter on cupping, and Muslim narrated it, 3/1204, no. 1577, in the book of hiring, chapter on the permissibility of payment for cupping. As for his saying "sea costus," it resembles camphor, one type of which is hot and is the black variety, and another slightly cold and is the white variety, and both come from India. As for his saying, "Do not torment your children with the pressing," this refers to pressing the uvula for tonsillitis, which is what we call inflammation of the tonsils, and pressing it means lifting it upward by pressure on it, which causes severe pain.
