The Messenger of Allah ﷺ launched a military campaign against Khaybar. We performed the dawn prayer near Khaybar in the darkness before sunrise. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ mounted his horse, Abu Talha mounted his, and I rode behind Abu Talha. The Prophet of Allah ﷺ urged his horse forward through the narrow alleys of Khaybar, and my knee was touching the thigh of the Prophet of Allah ﷺ. The lower garment slipped away from the Prophet's thigh, and I could see the whiteness of the Prophet of Allah's thigh. When he entered the town, he said, "Allahu Akbar! Khaybar is destroyed! When we descend upon the courtyard of a people, evil is the morning of those who have been warned." He said this three times. The people had already gone out to their work, and when they saw him they cried out, "Muhammad!"Abdul-Aziz said, and some of our companions said, "the army."We took it by force, and the captives were gathered together. Then Dihya came and said, "Prophet of Allah, give me a slave girl from among the captives."He said, "Go and take a slave girl."So he took Safiya bint Huyayy. A man then came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, you gave Dihya Safiya bint Huyayy, the noblewoman of Qurayza and Nadir. By Allah, she is fit for none but you."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Call him here with her."He brought her, and when the Prophet ﷺ looked at her, he said to Dihya, "Take a different slave girl from the captives."Then the Prophet of Allah ﷺ freed her and married her.Thabit said to him, "Abu Hamza, what dowry did he give her?"He replied, "Her own self. He freed her and married her."When they were on the road, Umm Sulaym prepared her and presented her to him at night, and the Prophet ﷺ awoke a bridegroom. He said, "Whoever has anything, let him bring it." A leather mat was spread out, and one man came with dried curd, another came with dates, and another came with clarified butter. I think he also mentioned parched barley meal. They mixed these together into a sweet dish called hays, and that was the wedding feast of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
