During the year of Tabuk, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ addressed the people while leaning his back against a palm tree. He said, "Shall I tell you who is the best of people and who is the worst? Among the best of people is a man who strives in the cause of Allah on the back of his horse, or on the back of his camel, or on his own two feet, until death comes to him. And among the worst of people is a wicked, brazen man who recites the Book of Allah yet calls to nothing of it."
حدثنا هاشم بن القاسم حدثنا ليث قال حدثني يزيد بن أبي حبيب عن أبي الخير عن أبي الخطاب
إن رسول الله ﷺ عام تبوك خطب الناس وهو مسند ظهره إلى نخلة فقال ألا أخبركم بخير الناس وشر الناس إن من خير الناس رجلا عمل في سبيل الله على ظهر فرسه أو على ظهر بعيره أو على قدميه حتى يأتيه الموت وإن من شر الناس رجلا فاجرا جريئا يقرأ كتاب الله ولا يدعو إلى شيء منه
