A man suffered a financial loss during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ regarding fruits he had purchased, and his debts grew heavy. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Give him charity."So the people gave him charity, but it was not enough to cover his debts. The Prophet ﷺ then said to his creditors, "Take what you find, for that is all you are entitled to."
حدثنا أبو كامل حدثنا ليث بن سعد عن بكير بن عبد الله بن الأشج عن عياض بن عبد الله بن سعد
أصيب رجل على عهد رسول الله ﷺ في ثمار ابتاعها فكثر دينه قال فقال رسول الله ﷺ تصدقوا عليه قال فتصدق الناس عليه فلم يبلغ ذلك وفاء دينه فقال النبي ﷺ خذوا ما وجدتم وليس لكم إلا ذلك
Its isnad is sahih. Abu Kamil is Muzaffar bin Mudrik, who is trustworthy. In [the printed edition] "T", it reads "Bukayr from Abdullah," which is an error. The hadith is found in Muslim, in the Book of Sharecropping, chapter on the recommendation of writing off part of a debt, 3/1191, no. 1556, in Abu Dawud, 3/276, no. 3469, in the Book of Leasing, chapter on writing off losses from natural disasters, and in Nasai, 7/312, no. 4678, in the Book of Business Transactions.
