He heard Ibn Abbas say, "Most people have not been instructed regarding the verse of seeking permission, yet I instruct this servant girl of mine to seek permission before entering upon me."

[Its chain of transmission is daif] Sufyan bin Uyayna used to practice tadlis, narrating from weak narrators, trustworthy narrators, other mudallis narrators, and others, and he narrated with an ambiguous form of transmission. The hadith of Ataa may be the one that Bukhari reported in Adab al-Mufrad*, no. 1063, with a sahih chain of transmission from him, in which it states that seeking permission is obligatory upon all people. This report has other routes of transmission found in Ibn Abu Hatim, Ibn Jareer, and others.
