Ibn Abu Layla reported,

The prayer went through three stages.He said, our companions narrated to us that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "It pleased me that the prayer of the Muslims," or he said "of the believers," "should be unified, so much so that I considered sending men into the houses to call out to the people the time of prayer, and I even considered ordering men to stand on the towers and call out to the Muslims the time of prayer, until they nearly used a clapper, or were about to use one."He said, then a man from the Ansar came and said, "Messenger of Allah, when I went back, after I saw how concerned you were, I saw a man wearing what looked like two green garments. He stood on the mosque and gave the call to prayer, then sat for a moment, then stood and said the same words, except that he said, 'The prayer has begun.' Were it not that people would say," (Ibn al-Muthanna said, "that you would say,") "I would have said that I was awake and not asleep."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, (Ibn al-Muthanna said,) "Allah has shown you something good." Amr did not include the phrase "Allah has shown you something good." "So instruct Bilal to give the call to prayer."He said, then Umar said, "I myself saw the same thing he saw, but since he spoke first, I was too embarrassed to mention it."He said, our companions narrated to us, he said, when a man came late, he would ask and be told how much of the prayer had passed, and they stood with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, some standing, some bowing, some sitting, all praying along with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.Ibn al-Muthanna said, Amr said, Husayn narrated this to me from Ibn Abu Layla, "until Muaz came." Shuba said, I also heard this from Husayn, who said, "I do not see him in any state," up to his words, "do likewise."He said, our companions narrated to us that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived in Madinah, he ordered them to fast three days. Then Ramadan was revealed. They were a people unaccustomed to fasting, and fasting was difficult for them, so whoever did not fast would feed a poor person. Then this verse was revealed, "So whoever among you witnesses the month, let him fast it" [Baqarah 2:185]. The dispensation remained for the sick and the traveler, and the rest were ordered to fast.He said, our companions narrated to us, he said, when a man broke his fast and slept before eating, he could not eat until morning. Umar bin Khattab came and wanted to be with his wife, but she said, "I have already slept." He thought she was making an excuse and went to her. Then a man from the Ansar came home wanting food, and they said to him, "Wait until we warm something for you," and he fell asleep. When morning came, this verse was revealed to him, "It has been made permissible for you, on the night of the fast, to approach your wives" [Baqarah 2:187].

ابن أبي ليلى قال

أحيلت الصلاة ثلاثة أحوال قال وحدثنا أصحابنا أن رسول الله ﷺ قال لقد أعجبني أن تكون صلاة المسلمين أو قال المؤمنين واحدة حتى لقد هممت أن أبث رجالا في الدور ينادون الناس بحين الصلاة وحتى هممت أن آمر رجالا يقومون على الآطام ينادون المسلمين بحين الصلاة حتى نقسوا أو كادوا أن ينقسوا قال فجاء رجل من الأنصار فقال يا رسول الله إني لما رجعت لما رأيت من اهتمامك رأيت رجلا كأن عليه ثوبين أخضرين فقام على المسجد فأذن ثم قعد قعدة ثم قام فقال مثلها إلا أنه يقول قد قامت الصلاة ولولا أن يقول الناس قال ابن المثنى أن تقولوا لقلت إني كنت يقظان غير نائم فقال رسول الله ﷺ وقال ابن المثنى لقد أراك الله عز وجل خيرا ولم يقل عمرو لقد أراك الله خيرا فمر بلالا فليؤذن قال فقال عمر أما إني قد رأيت مثل الذي رأى ولكني لما سبقت استحييت قال وحدثنا أصحابنا قال وكان الرجل إذا جاء يسأل فيخبر بما سبق من صلاته وإنهم قاموا مع رسول الله ﷺ من بين قائم وراكع وقاعد ومصل مع رسول الله ﷺ قال ابن المثنى قال عمرو وحدثني بها حصين عن ابن أبي ليلى حتى جاء معاذ قال شعبة وقد سمعتها من حصين فقال لا أراه على حال إلى قوله كذلك فافعلوا قال و حدثنا أصحابنا أن رسول الله ﷺ لما قدم المدينة أمرهم بصيام ثلاثة أيام ثم أنزل رمضان وكانوا قوما لم يتعودوا الصيام وكان الصيام عليهم شديدا فكان من لم يصم أطعم مسكينا فنزلت هذه الآية {فمن شهد منكم الشهر فليصمه} فكانت الرخصة للمريض والمسافر فأمروا بالصيام قال و حدثنا أصحابنا قال وكان الرجل إذا أفطر فنام قبل أن يأكل لم يأكل حتى يصبح قال فجاء عمر بن الخطاب فأراد امرأته فقالت إني قد نمت فظن أنها تعتل فأتاها فجاء رجل من الأنصار فأراد الطعام فقالوا حتى نسخن لك شيئا فنام فلما أصبحوا أنزلت عليه هذه الآية {أحل لكم ليلة الصيام الرفث إلى نسائكم}
