Ali bin Abu Talib reported,

We were attending a funeral with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at Baqee al-Gharqad. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came and sat down, holding a small stick with which he began poking the ground. Then he raised his head and said, "There is not one of you, not a single soul that has been born, except that Allah has already written its place in the Fire or in the Paradise, and whether it will be wretched or happy."A man from the group asked, "Prophet of Allah, shall we not then rely upon what has been written for us and abandon striving? Whoever is among the people of happiness will surely come to happiness, and whoever is among the people of wretchedness will surely come to wretchedness."He replied, "Strive, for everyone is made easy toward what he was created for. As for the people of happiness, they are made easy toward happiness. And as for the people of wretchedness, they are made easy toward wretchedness."Then the Prophet of Allah recited, "As for the one who gives and is mindful of Allah and believes in the best reward, We will ease him toward ease. But as for the one who is stingy and considers himself self-sufficient and denies the best reward, We will ease him toward hardship" [Layl 92:5–10].

حدثنا مسدد بن مسرهد حدثنا المعتمر قال سمعت منصور بن المعتمر يحدث عن سعد بن عبيدة عن عبد الله بن حبيب أبي عبد الرحمن السلمي

عن علي عليه السلام قال

كنا في جنازة فيها رسول الله ﷺ ببقيع الغرقد فجاء رسول الله ﷺ فجلس ومعه مخصرة فجعل ينكت بالمخصرة في الأرض ثم رفع رأسه فقال ما منكم من أحد ما من نفس منفوسة إلا كتب الله مكانها من النار أو من الجنة إلا قد كتبت شقية أو سعيدة قال فقال رجل من القوم يا نبي الله أفلا نمكث على كتابنا وندع العمل فمن كان من أهل السعادة ليكونن إلى السعادة ومن كان من أهل الشقوة ليكونن إلى الشقوة قال اعملوا فكل ميسر أما أهل السعادة فييسرون للسعادة وأما أهل الشقوة فييسرون للشقوة ثم قال نبي الله {فأما من أعطى واتقى وصدق بالحسنى فسنيسره لليسرى وأما من بخل واستغنى وكذب بالحسنى فسنيسره للعسرى}
